Because getting a tattoo was out of the question, I needed to figure out another way to display my favorite verb trio—jewelry. "Aaron and I met during a production of Hamlet with his theatre company, of which I am now also a proud member. We have acted in six productions together, during which we have run the gamut of stage relationships (brother/sister, brother/sister/lovers, cousins, troubled couples). We often joke that we have such a successful relationship because we get all of the drama out onstage!

We had been dating for just under three years when we opened our most recent show, Aftermath, which is an original play written by one of our company's co-artistic directors about Rolling Stones founder Brian Jones. The evening after we opened the the show, Aaron cooked me a delicious dinner and then asked if he could play me my songs (he had written me a couple of songs over the years, and I had been mentioning recently that it had been awhile since he'd played them).

After playing "Between the Lines" and "Lavender Girl," he told me that he had been working on a new song for me and asked if I wanted to hear it. (I of course said yes). He proceeded to play a gorgeous song, the first chorus of which was the repeated word "Will," the second chorus "Will you," and the third chorus "Will you marry me?" He then got down on one knee and opened a small white box to reveal a stunning ring!

I was in a bit of shock—an elated, giggly, tearful shock—but I (almost) immediately replied "Of course!" After a few minutes, I realized that I still hadn't tried on the ring!" I had no idea that Aaron had been working on both the ring and the proposal song for the past four months. When he told me the story behind the ring and The Clarity Project, I was thrilled!

Environmental and social responsibility are high priorities for me, and it is such a joy to wear a stunning piece of jewelry that symbolizes our love and commitment and helped support a great cause. I know that Aaron and Shane worked closely on the design (Aaron told me he secretly photographed my jewelry so that Shane could get a sense of what I like), and I hear that this original design is now quite popular! (I certainly won't object if you'd like to call it "Simone"!)

Aaron and I have now embarked on a three month road trip out west, and we feel so grateful to have the chance to explore a substantial chunk of the U.S. and really enjoy our engagement. Our wedding ceremony will take place over Labor Day weekend 2011 at his parents' ranch in Carbondale, CO with a reception the following weekend in our hometown of Chicago. "Little background, we went to this newly re-opened historic/landmark hotel in Watch Hill, RI—The Ocean House. 5 AM rolled around and I planted the ring on the nightstand and started my day—admittedly with a fair bit of noise. She woke up and checked the alarm clock and flopped back in bed. She didn't notice the ring right away, and when I asked her to look again I got down on a knee. Beautiful place, great sunrise over the ocean, and a surprising time of day to get the question.
